Daughter of my Mother / Hija De Mi Madre
Bio
For this thesis, I developed a brand that will exist to put out products, content, ideas, events, etc. to deal with issues that brown and black communities have been facing thru decades, especially in the fashion, art, and entertainment industries. Issues such as cultural appropriation, whitewashing, colorism, etc. This brand aims to combat these issues and create an inclusive representation, rightful cultural credibility, and unapologetic authenticity within brown & black communities in these industries. This brand’s foundation and mission are woven into the idea of decolonization and changing the narrative of the stories, stereotypes, and negative stigma of what it is to be a person of color from a disadvantaged environment which is my narrative and what makes up my identity. I want to create a brand, pieces, and work that will change these narratives and bring about long-term change in these industries for those who follow and those from my community that has always been excluded. The content of this brand will be directly related to ideas and goods relating to fashion, photography, language, beauty cosmetics, call to action, pop culture, social media, etc.
