Bio

The distance between the life we lead and the life we can imagine is the basis for Stephen Garback’s work. Engaging with the distinctions between mass consumerism and identity, the work is aimed at self-discovery in a cultural moment where the lines between ego and avatar have blurred. The most common motif in the designer’s work is the Alien, a notion That reflects the trepidation of the future and unknown. These narratives are enriched by Garback’s passion for satire, art history and pop culture, interests that have been cultivated since the designer’s childhood, growing up at the end of a cul-de-sac in suburban New Jersey.
