Thesis Statement

As I approach the finality of my education at Parsons this senior year, I am reminded of the idea of cradle to grave and the passions of life in-between which can lead to our ruin or renewal. I have chosen to capture all of these ideas into ballgowns—glamorous but patterned with tragedy…no one can waltz through life without stepping on a few toes. Your train may be tripped on, and your gown might get stained. You can stop and cry over it, or continue towards the exit.
The focus is not the filth that has accumulated but the elegance that remains. As many admire, as are appalled by a damaged beauty embodied without reflection or erasing of what has been done. “Ballroom Damage,” is about is about alchemy fine tuned to the sound of the next song, a fantasy forbidden, or a truth with a lie prolonged.

Bio

My name is Megan Taylor. I am from Austin, Texas and am graduating with my BFA in Fashion Design this year. My interest in fashion design began at twelve years old through the influence of my paternal grandmother— we both found ourselves invested in sewing as a form of bonding.

She introduced this as a hobby to me initially, and I expanded this by creating pieces for my sister’s dolls. The passion furthered itself into fashion illustrations and sewing, and after encouragement from my mother’s cousin (an artist in Miami); I decided to pursue fashion design as a career path.
